Point Reyes

Today was really cold. We had a choice to bunker down or go out for an adventure. Thanks to a recommendation from DBIII we decided to risk the outdoors and visit Point Reyes Fort Cronkhite. The site we visited was a military installation from the 19th century all the way through the Cold War. We got to see everything except for the Nike Missiles (If you want to see the missiles you gotta get there on the first Saturday of the month or a weekday).



This is a firetruck on Fort Cronkhite. The Fort still operates as a base station for the Park Rangers and is kept up fairly well. It looks a little rustic. We rarely get everyone smiling in a shot, so even with eyes closed this will have to do.



The boys were both so happy to be at the beach. They really light up every time we take them anywhere near water. They will be surfing someday.




We made it up to some old Battery outposts and found a series of tunnels connected to different lookout points. I doubt the enemy ever got close enough for these to see much action beyond the graffiti artists that have invaded over the past few decades. Loved this sweet picture of Joshua and Adriane.



There is also a great lighthouse, Point Bonita, across the water. We really couldn't make it there as the suspension bridge connecting it to land is still being restored. They are currently working on a tunnel that connects to the bridge that will then connect to the tunnel. Looks like we are going to have to make a return visit.

One great thing about this trip. Besides paying a couple of bridge tolls the entire trip was free!!!
